I can't recall which book was which because I got two on Menieres, but if I recall right, this guy was rich and if you're rich you can pretty much afford to do all the things he was recommending like yoga, weekly acupuncture and massage..

At age 46 the author was stricken with this horrific disease for which there is no known cause or cure.
