An excellent book, whether the reader is a Civil War buff or not.
The combination of Sam Watkins' foot soldier view of the war along with the broader context provided by the annotations and explanations of Philip Leigh make for an enjoyable read and an illuminating overall view of the critical campaigns fought by Mr.

This edition of Confederate Private Sam Watkins's memoir provides the context missing in all other versions with more than 240 annotations and 30 illustrations and maps.
